Course Description:
This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and/or hold the responsibilities of a Ship Security Officer (SSO), as defined in the ISPS Code. In particular, the Ship Security Officer would have acquired the skills to:
- Maintain ship security plans
- Appreciate security levels
- Develop and maintain measures for the control of access to the ship
- Conduct ship security and risk assessments
- Implement effective search and security mechanisms

Medically fit for sea
Course Content:
- Module One: Introduction
- Module Two: Maintain and supervise the implementation of a Ship Security Plan
- Module Three: Assess security risk, threats and vulnerability
- Module Four: Undertake regular inspections of the ship to ensure that appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained
- Module Five: Ensure that security equipment and systems are properly in operation, tested, calibrated and operated
- Module Six: Encourage security awareness and vigilance
- Module Seven: Anti-piracy best management practices (BMP5)
