Qualification:

Ship Security Officer SAMSA STCW ref A-VI/5 Certificate of Completion

Course Description:

This course aims to provide knowledge to those who may be designated to perform the duties and/or hold the responsibilities of a Ship Security Officer (SSO), as defined in the ISPS Code. In particular, the Ship Security Officer would have acquired the skills to:

 

  • Maintain ship security plans
  • Appreciate security levels
  • Develop and maintain measures for the control of access to the ship
  • Conduct ship security and risk assessments
  • Implement effective search and security mechanisms

Prerequisites:

Medically fit for sea

Course Content:
  • Module One: Introduction
  • Module Two: Maintain and supervise the implementation of a Ship Security Plan
  • Module Three: Assess security risk, threats and vulnerability
  • Module Four: Undertake regular inspections of the ship to ensure that appropriate security measures are implemented and maintained
  • Module Five: Ensure that security equipment and systems are properly in operation, tested, calibrated and operated
  • Module Six: Encourage security awareness and vigilance
  • Module Seven: Anti-piracy best management practices (BMP5)
